Zonin Merlot Friuli DOC 2021

From Zonin, the Merlot Friuli DOC 2021 is a dry red wine made in Abruzzo (Central Italy) from 92% Montepulciano and 8% Sangiovese. Vinified with careful skin contact, the grapes are softly pressed before the juice macerates on the skins for about a week in rotating, temperature-controlled stainless steel vinifiers at around 28–30°C. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation, then ages in large Slavonian oak casks.

In the glass, it shows a brilliant, warm ruby-red colour. The bouquet is ample and notably complex, with vinous, characteristic tones, while the palate is dry and gracious, marked by delicate, soft veining and a fine, harmonious balance. Serve at 18–20°C and enjoy it throughout a meal, particularly alongside red meat dishes, savoury rural-style preparations and moderately aged cheeses.
