Synopses

Imperium

On a cold November morning, Tiro opens the door to a terrified Sicilian who claims to be a victim of Verres, the corrupt Roman governor of Sicily. The encounter draws Cicero into events that lead towards a celebrated courtroom drama, as the young lawyer and orator seeks imperium.

Lustrum

Rome, 63 BC: as the city stands on the edge of a vast empire, seven men compete for power, including Cicero, Caesar, Pompey, Crassus, Cato, Catilina and Clodius. Narrated by Tiro, Cicero’s confidential secretary, the novel interweaves alliances, betrayals and crimes, moving from the discovery of a child’s mutilated body through execution, trial and the violence of the Roman mob.

Dictator

There was a time when Cicero could have decided Caesar’s fate, but now Caesar is dominant and Cicero’s life is in ruins. Cicero attempts a comeback requiring wit, skill and courage, and for a brief period becomes the leading senator in Rome again, while remaining exposed to the ambition and corruption of others.
