Classic Editions The Complete Works of Jane Austen brings together seven novels and story collections in a single box set, spanning Austen’s best-known works alongside lesser-known tales. From her first published novel to her final completed book, the set offers a broad view of her fiction, including stories of family life, love, social expectations and personal judgement.
Across the collection, readers encounter contrasting temperaments, coming-of-age experiences and the pressures of marriage and status in England. The set also includes unfinished works written late in Austen’s life, as well as narratives presented in different forms, including a series of letters.
Austen’s first published novel follows two sisters, Elinore and Marianne, whose contrasting natures shape how they approach love and relationships. Through their experiences, the story considers the balance between careful judgement and deep feeling.
Seventeen-year-old Catherine Morland is drawn to mysterious books and begins to imagine dark events in her own life. With figures such as John Thorpe and Henry Tilney, and the looming presence of Northanger Abbey, the tale centres on growing up, understanding the world and finding happiness.
Set in Regency England, the novel follows the Bennet sisters as marriage prospects become an urgent concern, particularly for Jane and Elizabeth. When Mr Bingley and his friend Mr Darcy arrive, Mrs Bennet schemes to secure advantageous matches, while Mr Bennet remains wryly detached.
In the village of Highbury, Emma Woodhouse is clever yet often spoilt, living with her father and accustomed to having her wishes indulged. One exception is Mr Knightley, who speaks plainly, as the novel explores class, youth and the importance of maturity and discretion.
At ten, Fanny Price is sent to live with her uncle and aunt in Northamptonshire, where only her cousin Edmund shows her warmth. When the Crawford siblings enter the household, Fanny alone remains unmoved by their charm, raising questions of sincerity, character and vanity.
Austen’s final finished novel centres on Anne Elliot and Navy Captain Frederick Wentworth, once engaged but separated by misfortune. Eight years later they meet again, with regret and bitterness complicating the possibility of a renewed relationship.
This volume gathers three lesser-known works. Sanditon, written in the last months of Austen’s life and left unfinished in 1817, is set in a seaside town and mixes hypochondria, family drama and romance. Lady Susan is told through letters and follows a cunning coquette, while The Watsons, also unfinished, focuses on Emma Watson as she navigates husband-hunting in search of true love.
