Adira Summers quits her career as a barrister in London and buys a campervan, encouraged by her bohemian gran. While touring around Britain, she breaks down outside Lilacwell and meets Jasper, who is visiting to check on his ailing uncle and the crumbling estate known as The Laurels.

Life in Lilacwell continues to shift as Jasper and Adira settle into The Laurels manor, newly engaged and leaving their city lives behind. Rory, Adira’s friend and ex-colleague, is considering a move from London to the Forest of Bowland, and after sparks at a summer party he and Cassie, the village innkeeper, face Cassie’s reluctance to trust and Rory’s uncertainty about returning to his law career.

Eva arrives in Lilacwell looking for a new start after a tragic miscarriage and a break-up with her unsupportive boyfriend.
