Double Agent: My Secret Life Undercover in the IRA is a first-hand account by Kevin Fulton. It is presented as an undercover intelligence memoir set during The Troubles.
Kevin Fulton is described as one of the British Army’s most successful intelligence agents, recruited to infiltrate the Provisional IRA at the height of The Troubles. Working undercover, he rose through the organisation to an unprecedented level and, with no alternative, took part in serious criminal activity, including the production of bombs he believed would later kill.
Valued by IRA leaders, he was promoted into its internal police, where his role became identifying and killing informers. The account then turns to 1994, when his position collapsed and he fled Northern Ireland, abandoned by the security services he had served and forced to live as a fugitive. Fulton describes the constant vigilance required of a double agent, and the heightened danger of operating within the IRA’s highest ranks.
