This four-book set brings together two Dune sequels and two Legends of Dune novels: Hunters of Dune, Sandworms of Dune, The Machine Crusade and The Butlerian Jihad. The collection follows refugees fleeing the Honored Matres, described as dark counterparts of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, as they push to the edges of the universe aboard a sophisticated no-ship.

Alongside Duncan Idaho, Bashar Miles Teg and Sheeana, the group prepares for a confrontation with a mysterious outside Enemy. Deep within their ship, they also carry the last surviving sandworms from devastated Arrakis while searching for a new Dune. The set also turns to the distant past, charting the rise of thinking machines, the creation of cymeks and the conflict that becomes the Butlerian Jihad.

Synopses

Hunters of Dune

Fleeing the Honored Matres, Duncan Idaho, Bashar Miles Teg, Sheeana and other refugees explore the boundaries of the universe. Aboard their no-ship, they use long-stored cells to resurrect figures from the past, including Paul Muad'Dib, as they prepare for a final confrontation with a mysterious Enemy. In the ship’s hold, they carry the last surviving sandworms from devastated Arrakis while searching for a new Dune.

Sandworms of Dune

As the no-ship Ithaca flees through space, the heroes from Hunters of Dune finally encounter the Enemy that followed the Honored Matres back to their universe. The thinking machines once vanquished by Serena Butler’s jihad were driven into exile rather than destroyed, and now return tens of thousands of years later. The resurrected heroes aboard the Ithaca face the threat of annihilation.

The Butlerian Jihad

In the Time of Tyrants, ambitious men and women use high-powered computers to seize control of the Old Empire, including Earth. They translate their brains into mechanical bodies and create cymeks, but the planetary computers known as Omnius take control, beginning a thousand years of brutal rule by thinking machines. As Omnius grows impatient with human disobedience and cymek plotting, it decides it no longer needs them.

The Machine Crusade

With Earth left a radioactive ruin, the early campaign of the Butlerian Jihad brings new hope to mankind. Serena Butler, whose murdered child becomes a symbol for oppressed humanity, inspires a war against the thinking computers led by Xavier Harkonnen and Vorian Atreides. Yet four Titans remain, and Omnius still holds most of its power.
