Hornby Mk3 TSO 42110 Coach C LNER

Built for higher-speed running on Britain’s Victorian-era railways, the Mk3 coach became a key part of the InterCity 125 story. This Hornby Mk3 TSO 42110 Coach C recreates the type used on the InterCity East Coast route and carries LNER identity, reflecting the fleet inherited in 2018 and withdrawn after a farewell tour at the end of December 2019.

The real Mk3 introduced notable advances over the Mk2, including secondary air suspension between the bogies and coach body, aerodynamic underframe skirting, and a 75ft (23m) length for increased capacity. Disc brakes and wheel slip protection supported faster deceleration, while early examples ran with the HST prototype in 1972 before entering service in 1975 alongside the Class 43 power cars.
