A distinctive addition for modern-era layouts, this 1:76 scale Hornby RailRoad model represents Class 37 419 ‘Carl Haviland’ in Direct Rail Services (DRS) company markings. Produced by Hornby and supplied ready-to-run, it is an easy way to introduce a well-known British diesel into a model railway collection.

The prototype entered British Rail service in 1965 as D6991, later becoming 37291 in 1974. Rebuilt as a Class 37/4 and renumbered 37419 in 1985, it went on to work in Scotland within the Provincial General Pool before allocation to Thornaby in the Railfreight Construction sub-sector. Further service followed under EWS and Direct Rail Services, and it remains part of the Harry Needle Railroad Co. hire fleet, stored serviceable at Barrow Hill.
