Howl's Moving Castle - Land of Ingary Trilogy is a three-book collection by Diana Wynne Jones, uniting interconnected stories set in the Land of Ingary. Across the trilogy, characters are pulled into unpredictable magic, unusual bargains and journeys that move far beyond ordinary life.

The set follows Sophie as she makes her way towards the moving castle above Market Chipping, Abdullah as his day-dreams begin to collide with reality in the south of Ingary, and Charmain Baker as she tries to manage a deceptively small cottage with extraordinary properties. Each book presents its own challenges, from curses and rescues to houses that bend space and time.

Howl's Moving Castle

Sophie, feeling she has nothing left to lose, heads for the moving castle that hovers above Market Chipping. The castle belongs to Wizard Howl, who is feared for an appetite said to be satisfied only by the souls of young girls. Inside, Sophie meets Michael, Howl’s apprentice, and Calcifer the fire demon, and agrees a pact while searching for a way to break her curse.

Castle in the Air

In the south of the Land of Ingary, Abdullah is a young carpet merchant who dreams he is the long-lost son of a great prince. His visions of a “castle in the air” begin to feel less like fantasy when he meets Flower-in-the-Night, daughter of the Sultan of Zanzib. As obstacles mount, including a bad-tempered genie, a hideous djinn and villainous bandits, Abdullah is determined to rescue her after she is carried off.

House of Many Ways

Charmain Baker agrees to look after Great Uncle William’s tiny cottage while he is ill, expecting an easy task. However, Great Uncle William is also known as the Royal Wizard Norland, and his house bends space and time. With a single door that can lead to countless places, Charmain quickly finds herself out of her depth.
