James Herbert The Rats Trilogy Collection gathers three novels from the author’s Rats trilogy: Domain, Lair and The Rats. Across the set, each story returns to the struggle between people and mutant rats as cities come under threat.

As the rats evolve and organise, survivors are pushed into ever more dangerous situations and the balance of power begins to change. From the aftermath of nuclear conflict to the rise of a mutant white rat and its offspring, the trilogy follows escalating peril as humanity is forced to confront a relentless enemy.

Synopses

Domain

After a long-feared nuclear conflict, a city is left shattered, with many of its people destroyed or mutilated. A small group of survivors shelters beneath the ruined streets, trying to stay ahead of the slow-falling poisonous ash. Underground, irradiated rats wait, sensing that humanity is weakened and exposed.

Lair

A mutant white rat has grown and bred, producing offspring like itself. These rats dominate the dark-furred ones, which search for food and carry it back to the lair. As the dark rats grow restless with an unsatisfied craving, the two-headed creature that rules them recalls the taste of human flesh.

The Rats

When the bones of the first victims are discovered, a city gripped by panic begins to recognise the threat posed by swarming black rats with razor-sharp teeth and a taste for human blood. For millions of years, people and rats have been natural enemies, but the balance of power has shifted suddenly and horrifyingly.
