Jericho Blewitt Springs Grenache 2019

From Jericho Family Wines, the Blewitt Springs Grenache 2019 is a limited production wine, with just over 900 bottles released for this vintage. The grapes are sourced from the Wait family ‘Talara’ vineyard in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale, a site described as deep sandy loam over shale soils, with a strong influence on wine style.

In the winery, crushed fruit was put to fermenter over 20% hand-harvested whole bunches and fermented on skins for 10 days. The whole bunches were then foot-stomped before pressing to French oak: 25% new and 75% seasoned barriques. Whole bunch inclusion contributes carbonic maceration flavours of fresh red fruits and lush confectionery, balanced by subtle herbal freshness from the green stalks.

Complex and expressive, it shows whole bunch and stalk characters alongside an intense bouquet, a balanced palate and a long-lasting finish. Notes described include cherry and ripe plum fruit, finishing with smooth milk chocolate.
