From Tenuta Cucco, the Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba 2019 reflects a winery established in the 1960s, named for its hilltop “cucco” site within the Cru Cerrati. The vineyards sit on an ancient part of the Barolo territory, with an altitude described as ideal for grape ripening and for bringing out tannins.
Marked by youthful exuberance, this wine is aged for 24 months in traditional 25-hectolitre barrels to develop elegance, before resting in bottle for a further 12 months. In the glass, it shows a bright ruby red colour with an orange rim. Aromas suggest withered rose, undergrowth, prunes, liquorice and spices, with evolved notes that echo tobacco and dried herbs. On the palate, it is described as fresh with a tart component, while tannins support a good structure and the fruit character remains sweet.
