Josh Lacey’s 8 Book Set brings together a sequence of comic adventures featuring Eddie and Uncle Morton’s pet dragons. Told through emails between Eddie and his uncle, the series follows Eddie as he attempts to “dragonsit” while everyday life quickly turns chaotic.
Across the collection, Ziggy and Arthur cause escalating trouble: empty fridges, blazing curtains and frantic chases. From half-term in London to the Christmas holidays, Eddie faces disappearing dragons, unexpected guests and situations that spiral out of control, often with a mischievous twist.
Edward agrees to look after Uncle Morton’s unusual pet for a week while his uncle is on holiday. The plan quickly unravels as the fridge is emptied, curtains catch fire and the postman flees down the garden path.
Eddie expects dragonsitting to be straightforward, but Ziggy disappears and is found hiding in the linen cupboard, refusing to move or eat. Eddie then discovers the dragon has been keeping a big secret.
Eddie takes the dragons on a half-term trip to London, where both go missing. He searches across the city, from the Natural History Museum to the London Eye, through tube stations, hotels and London Zoo, trying to avert disaster.
During the Christmas holidays, Eddie has to take the dragons away with him and they soon cause more mischief. With a castle, a sneezing dragon and a box of fireworks, the new year looks set to begin noisily.
Eddie is dragonsitting again, this time looking after Uncle Morton’s Scottish island as well. With sheep disappearing and a mysterious creature spotted in the loch, Eddie suspects there may be more than dragons living there.
It’s Eddie’s birthday and he plans a party of games and fun, until Ziggy and Arthur arrive as unexpected guests. Their idea of entertainment involves eating everything in sight and disrupting the magician’s tricks.
On Halloween, Eddie and Emily take the dragons trick or treating. With a serious sweet tooth, the dragons soon cause events to turn ghoulishly wrong.
Eddie’s mum is getting remarried to Gordon, Uncle Morton’s Scottish neighbour, when Ziggy is stolen, followed by Arthur. Eddie must find the thief, rescue the dragons and still make it to the church on time.
