Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller Chronicle collection gathers three books that follow Kvothe’s story alongside a companion tale set beneath the University. Across the set, Kvothe, also known as Kote, is seen from his early life with a troupe of travelling players, through hardship, and into a demanding school of magic, as the events that shape his reputation unfold.

Also included is a lyrical, atmospheric narrative centred on Auri, who lives in a maze of abandoned rooms and ancient passageways below the University. Once a student, she now spends her days tending the world around her, seeing beyond the surface of things and keeping certain mysteries settled and safe.

Included titles

  • The Name of the Wind
  • The Wise Man's Fear
  • The Slow Regard of Silent Things

Synopses

The Name of the Wind

Kvothe introduces himself through a catalogue of extraordinary deeds before the narrative turns to his life as Kote, an unassuming innkeeper. It follows his childhood with travelling players, his years as a near-feral orphan in a crime-riddled city, and his attempt to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic.

The Wise Man's Fear

The second instalment continues Kvothe’s tale, taking him into exile and through political intrigue, courtship, adventure, love and magic. It moves further along the path that leads the legendary magician of his age towards Kote, the quiet pub landlord.

The Slow Regard of Silent Things

The University draws brilliant minds to study sciences such as artificing and alchemy, yet far below its halls lies an abandoned maze where Auri lives. Formerly a student, she tends the world around her and looks beyond the University’s sharp rationality, sensing subtle dangers and hidden names.
