This four-book collection brings together crime novels by Mario Puzo, spanning American and Sicilian settings and the power structures that shape them. The set includes stories of family loyalty, organised crime, and the pressures of honour and silence, with narratives that move between Hollywood, Las Vegas, New York and Sicily.

Across the collection, Puzo explores the reach of the Mafia and the personal costs of ambition and legacy. From the Clericuzio family’s attempt to move into legitimate society, to Michael Corleone’s final days of exile in Sicily, each novel centres on shifting alliances, hidden histories and the consequences of betrayal.

Synopses

The Last Don

In a corrupt world of crooked police and desperate gamblers, Domenico Clericuzio holds power over those around him. In old age, he is determined to secure a life free from crime for his grandchildren, even as his family’s influence stretches into Hollywood and Las Vegas. As he tries to place his heirs in legitimate society, secrets from the past ignite a violent conflict between cousins.

The Sicilian

Michael Corleone’s exile in Sicily is coming to an end, but he is instructed by his father to bring back Salvatore Giuliano, if he can find him. In an unfamiliar land marked by treachery and deceit, Michael must navigate the forces surrounding Giuliano. Meanwhile, Giuliano prepares for a final confrontation with Don Croce, Capo di Capi of the Sicilian Mafia.

The Godfather

Set in the 1940s criminal underworld, this novel portrays the Corleone family at the centre of the American Mafia. It is both a depiction of organised crime and an intimate family story, shaped by the pressures of their position. The narrative includes blackmail, murder and family values.

Omerta

Omertà, the Sicilian code of silence, has long underpinned the Mafia’s sense of honour, but by the century’s end it is becoming a relic. In New York, a mob boss is assassinated, prompting investigations by his nephew Astorre Viola and the head of the city’s FBI. As silence spreads through rival gangs, crooked bankers and even the courts, Viola sees an opportunity to claim his destiny.
