Masseria Borgo dei Trulli Lucale Appassimento Primitivo 2023

From Masseria Borgo dei Trulli, Lucale Appassimento Primitivo 2023 is a Primitivo wine from the Salento area of Puglia, in the ‘heel of Italy’s boot’. In the glass, it shows a deep violet colour, opening with earthy aromas of blackcurrants, vanilla and chocolate. The palate is described as velvety, elegant and complex, finishing with an extremely well-balanced, persistent close.

The winery takes its name from the plural of ‘Trullo’, traditional Puglian dry-stone huts once used as field shelters or storehouses by Saracen populations hundreds of years ago, with remains still present today. Borgo dei Trulli spans 45ha of land, including 25ha of vineyards, with a focus on indigenous grapes and distinctive production methods. Among its plantings are 20ha of Primitivo, including the 10ha ‘Saracena’ vineyard, trained in the old Alberello system (free-growing bush tree). This vineyard is over 55 years old, with yields limited to less than 1kg of grapes per vine.
