This paperback collection brings together six stories featuring Olga da Polga by Michael Bond, written for ages 5–7. Having left the pet shop, Olga begins a new life with her owners in a large, airy hutch, where she soon encounters other animals including Noel the cat, Fangio the hedgehog, and Graham the tortoise.
Across the set, Olga visits a fellow guinea-pig called Boris, becomes involved in the busy Sawdust household, and experiences changes at home as the family moves her indoors for the winter. Further adventures follow as she investigates a strange jigsaw puzzle, encounters a mysterious visitor in the garden, and meets new arrivals in the household, leading to her first poetry recital.
Olga da Polga leaves the pet shop to start a new life with her owners. Settled in a large and airy hutch, she soon meets Noel the cat, Fangio the hedgehog, and Graham the tortoise.
Olga goes visiting and meets Boris, a guinea-pig. They become friends, and Olga discovers that Boris can tell even taller tales than she can. When it is time to return to her own garden, she does not mind.
Life is busy in the Sawdust household and Olga is at the centre of it. She offers advice to the other animals in the garden, takes part in a sponsored squeak, and even goes jogging.
Olga is pleased when the Sawdust family bring her inside for the winter. With her own box in the corner of the dining room, she spends her days watching the comings and goings in the house.
Exciting things are happening in the Sawdust household and Olga is caught up in them. She finds a strange jigsaw puzzle that looks good enough to eat, then discovers a mysterious visitor in the garden who thinks she looks good enough to eat.
New arrivals join the Sawdust family and Olga is eager to meet them. She wonders about the mysterious creatures living in a palace upstairs in the bedroom, and soon finds out. The newcomers arrive in time to hear her first poetry recital.
