Rob Rinder’s two-book collection pairs The Trial and The Suspect, courtroom stories built around cases where the facts seem to indicate one clear culprit. Across both novels, the initial evidence appears decisive, but the picture shifts as concealed motives and long-held grievances begin to surface.

Each book follows junior barrister Adam Green as he is drawn into high-profile investigations that place intense pressure on the justice system. From a death inside the Old Bailey to a shocking incident broadcast live on television, the collection brings together two cases in which appearances prove misleading and the truth is harder to pin down than first expected.

Synopses

The Trial

Hero policeman Grant Cliveden dies from poisoning in the Old Bailey, a death that threatens to shake the country. The evidence points to Jimmy Knight, a man with multiple previous convictions, and trainee barrister Adam Green must defend him in his first case. As proceedings unfold, others connected to Cliveden’s past appear to have their own reasons for revenge.

The Suspect

The UK’s favourite breakfast TV presenter dies live on air in front of millions. When it becomes clear her death was not an accident, suspicion turns to celebrity chef Sebastian Brooks. Adam Green finds the case is less straightforward than it first appears, and the presenter’s public image conceals a life in which she had enemies within the TV world.
