Synopses

Treachery

August 1583. Giordano Bruno, fleeing the Inquisition, begins a new life as a spy for Sir Francis Walsingham. Travelling with Sir Philip Sidney to Plymouth on the Queen’s behalf, he encounters Sir Francis Drake as preparations are made for an expedition against Spain that could shift the course of war.

Heresy

England faces plots to assassinate Queen Elizabeth and restore the country to the Catholic faith. Walsingham sends his newest agent, Giordano Bruno, undercover to Oxford to uncover a Catholic conspiracy, while Bruno pursues a separate mission at the University that must remain concealed.

Prophecy

Autumn 1583. An astrological event signals the start of a new age as Elizabeth’s throne is threatened. With Mary Stuart’s supporters scheming, the murder of a maid of honour and occult symbols carved into her flesh deepen the sense of peril.

Sacrilege

Summer 1584. After the assassination of the Protestant Prince William of Orange, rumours spread that Queen Elizabeth may be next. London is gripped by fear, and plague drives many citizens from the city.

Conspiracy

Paris, 1585. Giordano Bruno arrives to find a city close to catastrophe, as King Henry III fears a coup by the Catholic League and further bloodshed. When murder reaches into the Palace, Bruno follows a trail leading to a hidden secret, with the royal houses of France and England under threat.
