Synopses

The Ruby in the Smoke

After Sally Lockhart’s father drowns at sea, she receives an anonymous letter containing a dire warning. When the message causes a man to die of fear at her feet, she sets out to uncover the truth about her father’s death. Her search draws her into a terrifying mystery in the dark heart of Victorian London, centred on a deadly, blood-soaked jewel.

The Shadow in the North

Now twenty-two, Sally runs her own financial consultancy in a world of pompous men. When a client’s lost investment seems suspicious, she begins to investigate. She is soon pulled into a vicious web of murder, mystery, danger and deceit, leading towards the secret of the Shadow in the North.

The Tiger in the Well

At twenty-five, Sally finds herself targeted by someone determined to destroy her. She is sent divorce papers from a man she has never met, yet the trap is laid so carefully that she cannot prove otherwise. When custody of her daughter is awarded to the stranger, Sally faces a terrifying struggle for her family’s freedom.

The Tin Princess

Jim Taylor, Sally Lockhart’s oldest friend, is hired as bodyguard to a princess. Crown Princess Adelaide of Razkavia is not what she seems, and Jim recognises her as the slum-girl he has searched for since she vanished ten years earlier. With her life in mortal danger, they must face unknown enemies in a country where no one can be trusted.
