Commissioned in 1944 as the third Iowa-class battleship, USS Missouri (BB-63) is remembered for her Pacific War service and for hosting the signing ceremony of Japan’s surrender documents on 3 September 1945. After being mothballed following the Korean War, she returned to the U.S. Navy in 1986 following a refit with modern equipment, and later deployed to the Middle East during the Gulf War.
