Synopses

The Blade Itself

Inquisitor Glokta, a bitter relic of the last war, endures life in a broken body while continuing his work as a torturer. Captain Jezal dan Luthar drifts through an easy life, preoccupied with cards and reluctant training. Logen Ninefingers wakes in the snow with thoughts of settling a feud with Bethod, even as he tries to avoid it, until Bayaz becomes involved and makes their lives more difficult.

Before They Are Hanged

War approaches the frozen north, and the Union army is divided by politics and weakened by incompetence, lacking experience, training and, in some cases, weapons. In the south, the Gurkish mass to assault Dagoska, where Glokta prepares for siege while facing threats from within the city and the mystery of a vanished predecessor.

To the east, a small band travels to the edge of the world to recover a Seed hidden for generations, a device with tremendous destructive potential that could change the course of multiple wars, if it can be found and controlled.

Last Argument of Kings

The end is coming. Logen Ninefingers may have one last fight left as battle rages across the North and the King of the Northmen still stands firm. Glokta fights a secret struggle where trust is scarce, relying on blackmail, threats and torture.
