Streets of Laredo

Captain Woodrow Call, once a youthful Texas Ranger and Gus McCrae’s old partner, is now a bounty hunter hired to pursue a brutal young Mexican bandit. He rides with an Eastern city slicker, a witless deputy and Pea Eye Parker, one of the last of the Hat Creek outfit, now married to Lorena.

Dead Man's Walk

In the early days of the frontier, Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call first encounter the untamed world that will shape their characters. Not yet twenty, they enlist as Texas Rangers under Caleb Cobb, an outlaw set on taking Santa Fe from the Mexicans, and face a harsh landscape where arbitrary violence can come from nature or from those whose territory they must cross to reach New Mexico.

Comanche Moon

The second book in the quartet, following on from Dead Man's Walk, centres on ranchers Gus and Call as they struggle to protect the advancing West frontier against the defiant Comanches. The narrative is presented with a lyrical intensity and a strong affinity for the landscape and its inhabitants.
