The Tim Sebastian Collection gathers three espionage novels set against the shifting politics of the late Soviet era. Across the set, British intelligence becomes entangled in operations shaped by internal power struggles, concealed agendas and the danger of long-buried loyalties resurfacing at the worst possible moment.

From a mission that turns out to be something other than it first appears, to a mysterious night flight out of Moscow, and a reactivated mole facing exposure, each story follows the pressure placed on operatives and decision-makers as competing factions manoeuvre for advantage.

Synopses

Spy Shadow

James Tristram, an ageing secret operative described as soft of body but sharp of mind, is sent by English spymaster Cornish to support an uprising against the Polish government and its Russian backers. He soon discovers the assignment is a ploy. Elsewhere, a separate scheme involving Russian Stalinists and a long-time mole inside the British secret service is intended to discredit the government of a Gorbachev-like General Secretary of the Russian Communist Party.

Saviour's Gate

Each night, a small jet leaves Moscow for a remote outpost in the frozen Soviet North. It carries no passengers and returns with none. British intelligence concludes the flight is neither cargo nor military, and believes it may be an escape route for a beleaguered General Secretary, to be used moments before he is forced from power.

The Spy in Question

In 1990, Dmitry Kalyagin is on the verge of joining Gorbachev’s politburo when his long-dormant role as a British mole is abruptly reactivated. George Parker, an English intelligence officer who feels indebted to Kalyagin, begins a covert attempt to extract him before the Soviets uncover his identity.
