Tohani Principele Radu Merlot Red Wine

From Romania’s Muntenia region, Tohani Principele Radu Merlot is a dry red wine made from Merlot grapes with 14.8% ABV. Hand-picked in 15kg crates and carefully sorted, the grapes underwent cold maceration for five to eight days at 8–10°C, followed by controlled alcoholic fermentation at 26–28°C for eight to ten days.

Maturation in Allier oak barrels for 12 months was followed by a further year and a half of bottle ageing. The wine shows an intense ruby red colour with purple hues. Its character is shaped by oak-derived notes of cinnamon, black pepper, liquorice and vanilla, alongside quinine nuances and ripe red and black forest fruits including blackberries, blackcurrants, bitter cherries and sea buckthorn. The palate is warm and decisive, with juicy fruit, silky tannins, freshness, harmony, balance and elegance.

Serving suggestion

Decant for at least two hours. Serve at 15–17°C with raw dried sausages, game, mature cheeses or lamb chops with wine reduction.
