This five-book collection brings together Abir Mukherjee’s Wyndham and Banerjee series, following Captain Sam Wyndham and Sergeant Surendranath Banerjee as officers in Calcutta’s police force during the early 1920s. Set across India, the novels centre on investigations that unfold against a backdrop of political tension, social unrest and personal pressures.

From a murder that arrives with a warning to the British, to a high-profile assassination in a princely kingdom, each story places Wyndham and Banerjee in cases with far-reaching consequences. The set includes A Rising Man, A Necessary Evil, Smoke and Ashes, The Shadows of Men and Death in the East, spanning the years 1919 to 1923.
