The Queen’s Rival

As the Wars of the Roses sweep the country, Cecily Neville, Duchess of York, sets out to remove King Henry VI from the throne. After the Yorkists are defeated at Ludford Bridge, her family flee, leaving her to face a Lancastrian army alone.

With her lands taken and imprisonment in Tonbridge Castle, Cecily turns to deception. Her actions lead towards treason, the fall of Henry VI, and the crowning of her eldest son as King Edward IV.

A Tapestry of Treason

In 1399, Constance of York, Lady Despenser, becomes involved in the dangerous intrigues of the House of York. Surrounded by power-driven men, including her husband Thomas and her siblings Edward and Richard, she moves closer to the centre of events.

Constance places herself within two treasonous plots against King Henry IV, with the aim of restoring either King Richard II or the Mortimer claimant.

Queen of the North

In 1399, King Richard II’s hold on the crown is weakening as Henry of Lancaster returns from exile to reclaim the throne. Elizabeth Mortimer believes the rightful king is her eight-year-old nephew, Edmund, whose position she sees as vital to her fortunes and her family’s rule in the North.

However, others, including Elizabeth’s husband, oppose the prospect of another child king.
