This five-book collection brings together instalments 16 to 20 of the Asterix series, following Asterix and Obelix as they face fresh Roman schemes and far-reaching quests. From political intrigue in Gaul to a search for a rare flower in Helvetia, the stories move quickly between satire, travel and misadventure.
Across the set, Caesar’s influence is never far away: a modern housing estate is planned to undermine the indomitable village, a laurel wreath becomes the centre of a risky trip to Rome, and a self-proclaimed soothsayer unsettles the villagers with convenient predictions. The journey continues to Corsica, where vendettas, family pride and resistance in the maquis frame a new challenge against Roman authority.
The governor of Gaul is investigated by Vexatius Sinusititis, until the investigator is poisoned. To help him recover, Asterix and Obelix travel to Helvetia in search of a special flower that grows only there.
Caesar’s plan to infiltrate the Gaulish village involves building a modern housing estate, devised by the Roman architect Squaronthehypotenus. As the first Roman tenants arrive, the villagers face the temptation of making money, while the Gauls’ secret weapon remains a concern.
After Chief Vitalstatistix invites his brother-in-law to dine on a stew seasoned with Caesar’s laurel wreath, Asterix and Obelix head to Rome to obtain the laurels. To get close to Caesar, they sell themselves as slaves and attempt a deal with Goldendelicius to exchange the laurels for parsley.
On a stormy night, Prolix arrives in the village claiming to be a soothsayer. When his prediction that the weather will improve comes true, the villagers begin to trust him, but Asterix remains suspicious of his smooth talk.
Set in Corsica in 50 BC, the story features vendettas, fierce family pride and resistance fighters in the maquis. Asterix and Obelix help Chief Boneywasawarriorwayayix oppose Praetor Perfidius and stand against Julius Caesar’s army.
