Hornby Mk4 Standard Coach C LNER 12431

Introduced for the newly electrified East Coast Main Line, the Mk4 coach became a key part of modern InterCity travel from 1989 onwards. This Hornby model recreates an LNER Mk4 Standard Coach, numbered 12431, as an authentically replicated model railway coach for contemporary British rail layouts.

The real Mk4 fleet was built at Metro-Cammell’s Washwood Heath factory between 1989 and 1992, with design influences drawn from the Advanced Passenger Train. Across their service life, Mk4 coaches have operated under the InterCity East Coast franchise, including Great North Eastern Railway (GNER), National Express East Coast, East Coast, Virgin Trains East Coast and London North Eastern Railway (LNER). A major refurbishment programme, ‘Project Mallard’, ran between October 2003 and November 2005 under contract from GNER, introducing new seating arrangements and onboard Wi‑Fi.
