Josephine Cox 5 Books Collection Set brings together five novels featuring the Queenie and Emma Grady sagas. The set includes stories set in Blackburn and beyond, following lives shaped by family conflict, betrayal and the lasting impact of the past.

Across the collection, Queenie faces hardship from childhood and later returns north in 1965 to support a friend in prison, while keeping her whereabouts hidden from the man who vowed to find her. Emma Grady’s story begins in 1860 with a disastrous act of trust that places her future in the hands of her aunt and uncle, and continues through years of punishment, loss and a determined return to England.

Synopses

Her Father's Sins

Queenie seems born to suffer: her mother dies giving birth, and her father George Kenney ignores her unless he is cursing her. Her only steady support comes from her beloved Auntie Biddy.

Let Loose the Tigers

Queenie Bedford leaves Blackburn, carrying the knowledge that she and Rick Marsden can never marry. In 1965 she returns north to stand by her friend Sheila Thorogood, who is imprisoned for running a brothel with her mother, Maisie. Although Rick has vowed to find her, Queenie ensures he does not learn where she is.

Outcast

On a night in 1860, Thadius Grady realises too late that he has made a grave mistake. He has entrusted his fortune and his daughter Emma to his sister and her husband, Caleb Crowther. As he dies, he pleads to see Emma one last time, but Caleb refuses.

Alley Urchin

By 1870, Emma Grady has spent seven years as a convict in Australia. She lives for the day she can return to England to confront those who cheated and betrayed her, and to Marlow Tanner, the man she loves, whose child she bore and then lost.

Vagabonds

Emma Grady was wrongfully convicted and transported to Australia twenty-two years earlier, after bearing and losing a baby daughter conceived with Marlow Tanner. In 1885 she returns to Blackburn and is reunited with Marlow, building a loving family. Yet she remains haunted by the past, unable to forget how Caleb Crowther ignored her plea to save her and her first-born.
