Why it stands out

Planteray PXXO takes the house’s Barbados XO as its starting point, then adds a third maturation in Pedro Ximenez casks. That extra step builds on tropical ageing in Barbados and further ageing in Cognac, giving the rum a deeper, softer edge without losing its Barbados character. If you want a bottle with mature cask influence and a more layered finish, this one is especially well judged

Flavour profile

Expect a full, rounded style with coconut, chocolate and pastry cream at the front, followed by coffee, raisin and a light citrus lift. As it opens, plum, almond, cherry, ginger and sweet spice come through, with a mellow dried-fruit note that keeps everything cohesive rather than heavy.

Good to know

Bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle, this is made entirely from old Barbadian rums. It suits a measured pour neat, over a large cube, or in a spirit-forward serve where you still want the rum to lead.
