The Clockwork Crow set by Catherine Fisher brings together three stories featuring orphan Seren Rees/Rhys as she settles into life at Plas-y-Fran and faces a series of unsettling mysteries. Across the collection, a clockwork crow becomes an important ally as Seren and Tomos/Tomas encounter strange visitors, hidden histories and dangerous enchantments.

From a frost-bound Victorian country mansion at Christmas to a summer that turns ominous as autumn arrives, each book introduces new threats and unanswered questions. The set follows Seren as she tries to protect those close to her, uncover what lies behind a mysterious parcel, and confront figures linked to the Fair Family and other uncanny forces.

Synopses

The Clockwork Crow

In a frost-bound Victorian country mansion at Christmas, Seren Rees travels to her new home carrying a mysterious package handed to her by a strange, frightened man. As questions mount about what the parcel contains and the Family who must not be spoken of, Seren must act quickly. She also needs the Crow’s help to find Tom before the parcel’s owner catches up with her.

The Velvet Fox

After rescuing Tomas from enchantment, Seren Rhys looks forward to her first summer at Plas-y-Fran. When autumn arrives, a new governess appears and seems determined to draw Tomas away from Seren and his family. As dangerous figures from a bewitched toy carousel begin to stalk the house, Seren turns to the clockwork crow for help.

The Midnight Swan

Seren’s next journey involves an invisible girl, a parliament of owls and a pen that writes by itself, leading towards the garden of the Midnight Swan. Seren and Tomos must try to help the Crow find a way back to his human form, while Captain Jones begins enquiring about Seren’s past. The sinister Fair Family intrude on the Midsummer Ball, and the mysterious Midnight Swan’s single desire remains unclear.
