This three-book collection brings together crime novels featuring Harry Probert-Lloyd, a young barrister who returns from London as his eyesight worsens and takes on work as acting coroner in the Teifi Valley. With John Davies at his side as assistant and clerk, Harry is repeatedly drawn into investigations where official duties, local opinion and uneasy alliances complicate the search for answers.

Across the set, Harry faces pressure to secure his position permanently, conducts inquests that challenge accepted explanations, and confronts discoveries that reopen buried secrets. Each story follows his determination to pursue the truth, even when it proves politically difficult or personally unsettling.

Synopses

Those Who Know

Harry Probert-Lloyd inherits the Glanteifi estate and appoints his assistant John as under-steward, while his ambition to become coroner is threatened. Required to campaign for a permanent appointment, he is called to examine the death of Nicholas Rowland, a radical schoolteacher whose end may not be as accidental as it first seems.

In Two Minds

Now acting coroner of the Teifi Valley, Harry works with solicitor’s clerk John Davies as his assistant. When a faceless body is discovered on an isolated beach, he leads the inquest, but his persistence unsettles the local community, particularly as he chooses to work alongside a doctor known for a dubious reputation and experimental theories.

None So Blind

The remains of a young woman are uncovered when an old tree root is dug up, a discovery Harry has long feared. Certain he knows whose bones they are, he and John Davies pursue the guilty, only for the investigation to raise further questions and bring long-buried secrets to the surface.
