This three-book collection brings together Jeff Dawson’s An Ingo Finch Mystery novels, following Doctor Ingo Finch from the battlefields of South Africa to a political crisis in the North Sea and intrigue in early 20th-century New York. Set against real-world tensions and upheaval, the series places Finch in investigations where official explanations appear too tidy and the stakes escalate quickly.

Across the novels, Finch moves from his work with the Royal Army Medical Corps to operating as an official British agent. Each story draws him into espionage and murder amid competing powers, with allies and adversaries emerging in settings shaped by war, public outrage and shifting international loyalties.

Synopses

No Ordinary Killing

South Africa, 1899: as the Boer War continues, Captain Ingo Finch of the Royal Army Medical Corps is asked to assist after a British officer is murdered in Cape Town. Unsettled by who the victim is and the unusual circumstances, he doubts what seems like a convenient conclusion. With an Australian nurse, Annie, and an escaped diamond miner, Mbutu, Finch follows a trail of espionage and murder that leads towards a secret with far-reaching consequences.

The Cold North Sea

In October 1904, Russian warships bombard the Hull trawler fleet, killing fishermen and pushing Britain and Russia towards war. Ingo Finch, no longer looking for military adventure, is approached by a stranger who claims the Dogger Bank Incident hides a murderous conspiracy. Pulled back into espionage, Finch finds Whitehall, St Petersburg and rival Bolsheviks manoeuvring around a crisis with implications for Britain and Europe.

Hell Gate

New York, 1904: after the sinking of the General Slocum on the East River, a devastated German immigrant community becomes the centre of growing political agitation. A populist senator exploits the unrest, driving a movement that could steer America towards Germany in any future war. Nine months later, Ingo Finch arrives in Manhattan as an official British agent, tasked with uncovering the group while navigating a dangerous contest involving Whitehall, Washington, Berlin and the Mob.
