Auschwitz: The Nazis and the 'Final Solution'

Laurence Rees presents a history of Auschwitz, described as the most notorious Nazi institution. The book traces its development from a concentration camp for Polish political prisoners into a site of mass murder, combining the functions of death camp and concentration camp, where around a million Jews were killed.

Three Sisters

Cibi, Magda and Livia promise their father they will stay together. Years later, Livia is ordered to Auschwitz by the Nazis, and Cibi follows, determined to protect her sister as they face cruelty and hardship.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz

In 1942, Lale Sokolov arrives in Auschwitz-Birkenau and is assigned to tattoo prisoners marked for survival by scratching numbers into their arms. While a young girl waits in line to be tattooed, Lale is determined to survive and to ensure she does too.

Cilka's Journey

In 1942, sixteen-year-old Cilka Klein is taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp and is separated from the other women prisoners by the commandant, Schwarzhuber. After liberation, she is charged as a collaborator by the Russians and sent to a prison camp in Siberia known as Vorkuta, inside the Arctic Circle.
