Bernard Cornwell The Last Kingdom Series Collection brings together three consecutive novels featuring Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg. Set against a backdrop of shifting alliances and contested rule, this collection follows a warrior lord navigating rebellion, invasion and the struggle for power as England’s future hangs in the balance.

Across these later instalments, peace remains elusive even after victory. With rumours spreading, thrones left empty and rival claims hardening into conflict, Uhtred is repeatedly drawn from his Northumbrian stronghold into the centre of events, where fate and bloodshed shape what comes next.

Synopses

War of the Wolf (Book 11)

Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg knows peace is still out of reach. Although he has won the battle for his ancestral home, rebellion threatens in Mercia and invading Norsemen appear at every turn.

Sword of Kings (Book 12)

England is in turmoil as Vikings and Saxons fight for territory. As rumours grow about the King’s fatal sickness, the country waits for an heir.

A violent clash at sea forces Uhtred to lead his men from his Northumbrian fortress to London and into the heart of the storm, as two kings claim an empty throne. His sword will decide who lives and who rules, though the will of the gods is not easily known.

War Lord (Book 13)

After a lifetime of fighting, Uhtred is ready to hang up his sword, but peace remains fragile while the kingdom is divided. With kings in the north and south growing ever more bloodthirsty for power, events move towards war and Uhtred is drawn back into the fire.

In a terrible battle with the kingdom’s future balanced on a knife edge, he takes his stand on one side of the shield wall. Only fate will decide the outcome.
