Cramele Recas Bats Blood Merlot Red Wine

From Cramele Recas, Bats Blood is a dry red wine made from Merlot in Banat, part of the historic region of Transylvania. Bottled on the same estate where the grapes are grown and picked, it comes from a winery with a Mediterranean climate that is cooler and drier than the rest of Romania, with a longer harvest season that allows many varieties to ripen easily.

The wine was gently destemmed and crushed, then cold macerated for two days at 5C before three weeks of alcoholic fermentation at 27C. After pressing, centrifuging and full malolactic fermentation, it was matured for three months with French oak staves. At 13.5% ABV, it offers a polished, fruit-led style that suits hearty pasta dishes and roasted red meats.
