This three-book set brings together Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently series, pairing two Dirk Gently novels with a separate collection of the author’s writing. The selection moves between eccentric detective work, unlikely connections and comic observations on everyday life, presented across three distinct volumes.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency draws an unusual mix of elements into a single case, from quantum mechanics and an Electric Monk to a Chronologist and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul begins with an extraordinary incident at Heathrow Airport, followed by a rush of competing claims of responsibility. The Salmon of Doubt gathers Adams’ humour and reflections, ranging across topics including school trousers, malt whisky, the letter Y and fried eggs.

Synopses

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

A dead cat, a computer whiz-kid, an Electric Monk, quantum mechanics, a Chronologist and Samuel Taylor Coleridge appear to have little in common. Dirk Gently, a self-styled private investigator, sets out to show how everything is connected while tackling a mysterious murder, helping a mysterious professor and unravelling a mystery.

The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul

At Terminal Two, Heathrow Airport, a passenger check-in desk bursts through the roof in a ball of orange flame. Various organisations attempt to claim responsibility, and British Nuclear Fuels issues a statement insisting the situation is under control before admitting it has nothing to do with them.

The Salmon of Doubt

This collection draws on the wit and observations of Douglas Adams. It ranges across topics including school trousers, malt whisky, the letter Y, his own nose, atheism, hangovers and fried eggs.
