Synopses

Hetty Feather

In London in 1876, Hetty Feather is left as a baby at the Foundling Hospital and is sent to live with a foster family until she is old enough for school. Country life is demanding, yet she finds companionship with her foster brothers, Jem and Gideon, and is captivated by a travelling circus and its performers. When she must return to the Hospital, Hetty faces strict routines and hardship, while also gaining the chance to search for her mother.

Sapphire Battersea

Known as a Foundling Hospital girl, Hetty hopes that being reunited with her mother and taking the name Sapphire Battersea will mark a fresh start. Instead, her plans are tested as she goes into service as a maid and tries to navigate new work and new expectations. Longing for Jem, she is also drawn into funfair outings with Bertie the butcher’s boy, as her path takes unexpected turns.

Emerald Star

After leaving the Foundling Hospital, Hetty has already faced drama, excitement, tragedy and loss. Following the death of her mama, she sets out in search of a true home, beginning with the hope of finding her father.
