Jacqueline Wilson Collection 7 Books Set brings together seven novels by Jacqueline Wilson, including the Hetty Feather sequence and two companion stories set in the same world. This is a seven-book collection featuring Hetty Feather, Sapphire Battersea, Emerald Star, Diamond, Little Stars, Clover Moon and Rose Rivers.
In London in 1876, Hetty Feather is left as a baby at the Foundling Hospital and is sent to live with a foster family until she is old enough for school. Country life is demanding, yet she finds companionship with her foster brothers, Jem and Gideon, and is captivated by a travelling circus and its performers. When she must return to the Hospital, Hetty faces strict routines and hardship, while also gaining the chance to search for her mother.
Known as a Foundling Hospital girl, Hetty hopes that being reunited with her mother and taking the name Sapphire Battersea will mark a fresh start. Instead, her plans are tested as she goes into service as a maid and tries to navigate new work and new expectations. Longing for Jem, she is also drawn into funfair outings with Bertie the butcher’s boy, as her path takes unexpected turns.
After leaving the Foundling Hospital, Hetty has already faced drama, excitement, tragedy and loss. Following the death of her mama, she sets out in search of a true home, beginning with the hope of finding her father. Even when Jem returns to her life, Hetty’s appetite for adventure remains, especially when someone from her past reappears.
Born to penniless parents who wanted a son, Diamond grows up as an unwelcome disappointment, until her gift for acrobatics offers a way to earn money. Spotted by a stranger, she is sold into life at Tanglefield’s Travelling Circus, where the applause of the crowd contrasts with fear and pressure behind the scenes. Amid danger, she finds allies including Mister Marvel, Madame Adeline and the ringmaster Emerald Star.
Hetty begins a new chapter after escaping Tanglefield’s Travelling Circus with her close friend Diamond. Determined to become music hall artistes, they join Mrs Ruby’s show and perform as the Little Stars alongside a range of acts, including Flirty Bertie. As the Cavalcade proves perilous, Hetty tries to protect Diamond while also wrestling with her feelings for Bertie and for Jem.
In poverty-stricken Victorian London, Clover Moon relies on her imagination to endure a hard life. When tragedy leaves her grieving, she realises that the home she knew has changed beyond recognition. Hearing of a place she might run to, Clover must find the courage and opportunity to break free, even as she questions what it would mean to leave her family behind.
Rose Rivers lives in a beautiful house with her artist father, her fragile mother and her many siblings, yet she feels keenly the unfairness faced by girls and poor people. She questions why her brother can go to school, why she cannot train as an artist, and why wealth shapes opportunity. When Clover Moon arrives as a nursemaid and Rose meets Paris Walker, her father’s bohemian protégé, she begins to see more of the wider world and to consider what it might take to pursue her ambitions.
