Rick Riordan’s The Trials of Apollo series collection brings together the first four books in the sequence, presented as a box set. The set follows the god Apollo after he angers Zeus and is cast down from Olympus, forced to live as a regular teenage boy in New York City without his powers.

Across these instalments, Apollo faces a series of trials as he searches for a way to regain Zeus’s favour and reclaim his place on Mount Olympus. Along the way, he encounters enemies among gods, monsters and mortals, and seeks support from modern demigods at Camp Half-Blood while pursuing ancient oracles and confronting powerful opponents.

Synopses

The Hidden Oracle

After angering Zeus, Apollo is punished by being made human and cast down from Olympus. Weak and disorientated, he lands in New York City as a teenage boy and must learn to survive without his godly powers. With enemies on all sides, he turns to Camp Half-Blood for help.

The Dark Prophecy

Apollo, still trapped on earth as a teenage boy, begins the second of his trials. With his companions, he seeks the ancient oracles, as restoring them is presented as the only way to reclaim his place on Mount Olympus. Their search leads to a haunted cave in the American Midwest and a confrontation with a member of an evil Triumvirate.

The Burning Maze

Now an awkward mortal teenager called Lester, Apollo continues his trials on a third mission. He must journey through the Labyrinth to free an Oracle who speaks in puzzles and face a vicious Roman Emperor, all without any godly powers. Help comes from both new friends and old.

The Tyrants Tomb

Apollo and his friends have emerged from the Burning Maze, rescued the Oracle and survived, but further trials remain. With Meg, he still has a triumvirate to defeat, oracles to rescue and prophecies to decipher so that the world may be saved and he may become Apollo once again. Caligula is sailing to San Francisco to confront Camp Jupiter, and they must reach it first.
