This three-book set brings together Robert Harris’s novels Munich, The Second Sleep and V2. Spanning political tension, speculative unease and wartime technology, the collection moves from high-stakes diplomacy to a remote landscape marked by the remnants of a lost civilisation, and on to the development of a devastating weapon.

Across the three stories, leaders and individuals travel towards moments that will test loyalties, beliefs and intentions. From September 1938 and a meeting that will become infamous, to a priest’s anxious journey across Exmoor at dusk, and finally to the winter of 1944 and the launch of ballistic missiles towards London, each novel is rooted in a distinct setting and sense of threat.

Synopses

Munich

September 1938: Hitler is determined to start a war, while Chamberlain is desperate to preserve the peace. As they travel to a meeting in Munich, two young men accompany their leaders. Once friends in calmer times, they now find themselves on opposing sides.

The Second Sleep

As dusk gathers, a young priest, Christopher Fairfax, rides across a silent land towards a remote village on Exmoor. Lost and increasingly anxious, he crosses countryside scattered with ancient artefacts from a civilisation that appears to have ended in cataclysm. In the days and weeks ahead, his beliefs will be tested as he uncovers a secret described as both dangerous and terrifying.

V2

Rudi Graf once dreamed of sending a rocket to the moon, but instead helps create the V2 ballistic missile. Described as the world’s most sophisticated weapon, it can deliver a one-ton warhead at three times the speed of sound. In the winter of 1944, Hitler orders ten thousand to be built, and Graf is tasked with firing these ‘vengeance weapons’ at London.
