San Leonardo 2018 from San Leonardo is a Northern Italian red wine long noted for a Bordeaux-influenced style, with an emphasis on balance and purity. Wine Advocate has described it as “one of the great wines of Italy”, drawing a direct comparison with Sassicaia, while Jancis Robinson calls it “surely the most successful Bordeaux blend of Northern Italy”.

Leading Italian critic Nicolas Belfrage has also highlighted the wine’s “elegance-cum-depth”, suggesting a profile capable of standing alongside some of the world’s best clarets. Part of this identity is rooted in the estate’s history: owner Marchese Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga, described as a professionally trained aristocrat-oenologist, spent time at Tenuta San Guido in the 1960s and later worked with the same consultant associated with Sassicaia, Giacomo Tachis, for a period.
