Honda’s breakthrough moment in Formula One is captured in the Tamiya Honda RA272 1965 Mexico Winner 1:20 scale model kit. This subject represents the RA272 racing machine that won the 1965 Mexican Grand Prix, driven by Richie Ginther, in what was also the final Formula One race to use normally aspirated 1.5 litre displacement engines. Honda entered F-1 Grand Prix racing as the first Japanese car manufacturer to do so, and this victory marked the brand’s first win since debuting at the 1964 German Grand Prix.
Developed from the earlier RA271, the RA272 was a thoroughly improved and redesigned machine. Ginther’s experience contributed to further refinement during the season, culminating in a win on 24 October 1965 after taking the lead just after the start and holding first place throughout the race. Intended for adult constructors, this kit offers a focused build centred on a landmark result.
