Developed by Germany in 1943 to address the growing threat of Russian tanks, the Panzerkampfwagen VI-B Tiger II became widely known as the King Tiger. This Tamiya model kit recreates the production version with the Henschel turret in 1:35 scale, reflecting the design selected after trials against a rival Porsche prototype.
The real vehicle combined very thick armour with the Type 43 L71 88mm high-velocity main gun, supported by two 7.92mm machine guns mounted on the front hull and turret. Power came from a Maybach HL230 P30 V-12 liquid-cooled engine producing 700 horsepower. Mass production began at the Henschel factory in August 1944, with 430 units built with the Henschel turret and fewer than 500 available for combat in total. Intended for adult constructors, this kit suits military modellers drawn to late-war armoured history.
