Care

Taking care of your decking kit is essential to ensure it stays strong, durable, and visually appealing for years to come. With a little regular maintenance, you can protect your deck from weather damage, stains, and general wear. Follow these simple care tips to keep your decking in top condition.

Regular Cleaning

To keep your decking looking fresh, sweep it regularly to remove leaves, dirt, and debris that can trap moisture and lead to mold or mildew growth. Every few months, wash the deck using mild soap and water with a soft-bristle brush. Avoid using pressure washers at high settings, as they can damage the wood’s surface.

Annual Inspection & Repairs

Check your decking at least once a year for any loose screws, nails, or cracked boards. Tighten any fasteners that may have come loose over time and replace damaged boards if needed. Pay close attention to areas where the deck meets the ground, as these spots are more prone to moisture exposure.

Sealing & Staining

To extend the life of your decking, apply a wood sealant or stain every 1-3 years. This protects against moisture absorption, UV damage, and fading. A simple way to check if your deck needs sealing is to sprinkle some water on the boards—if it absorbs quickly, it’s time to apply a new coat of sealant.

Preventing Damage

Protect your deck by placing rubber or felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratches. If you use planters, keep them elevated with stands to allow air circulation and prevent trapped moisture from rotting the wood. When using outdoor rugs, choose breathable materials that don’t retain moisture, as this can lead to wood decay.

Seasonal Maintenance

In winter, clear snow with a plastic shovel instead of metal to prevent scratches. Avoid using harsh de-icing salts as they can damage the wood’s finish. During summer, consider placing a shade cover or pergola over your deck to reduce sun exposure and prevent excessive fading.

By following these simple care steps, your decking kit will remain a beautiful and inviting space for relaxation and entertainment year after year.
