Bob Skinner Series 5 Books Collection Set by Quintin Jardine gathers five investigations led by Edinburgh Deputy Chief Constable Bob Skinner. Set against the city and its surrounding areas, the cases move from public disasters to killings that shake communities, placing Skinner at the centre of fast-moving enquiries where early assumptions rarely hold.
Across the collection, incidents escalate quickly and motives prove difficult to untangle. From a catastrophe in the skies over Scotland to violence in Edinburgh’s suburbs and city centre, Skinner is required to assess evidence, direct his team and respond as each situation becomes more complex.
A plane is destroyed mid-flight over Scotland, killing the British and American defence secretaries among others. Skinner takes charge of a high-profile investigation that appears straightforward at first, before the facts become increasingly difficult to explain.
Following the birth of Skinner’s son, a man is found stabbed in a luxury villa in a prosperous Edinburgh suburb. The victim owned launderettes, saunas and pubs across the city, businesses long suspected by police of concealing a drug-distribution network.
Celebrations at an elite country club’s opening collapse into disorder when a man is found dead in the clubhouse jacuzzi, his throat cut. The killing is linked to a witches’ curse, which Skinner dismisses, until a second death pushes him to search for what lies behind the story.
A brutally mutilated body is discovered in a dark alleyway and identified as a successful young lawyer, with no obvious motive. As further deaths point towards a serial killer, and the lawyer’s fiancée is also murdered, Skinner sees a deliberate pattern taking shape.
On the opening day of Edinburgh’s August festival, an explosion on Princes Street kills a man. A threatening letter to the Secretary of State follows, apparently from a freedom group demanding political separation from England, and Skinner brings together his CID team with SAS support.
