DCI Craig Gillard Crime Thrillers Series is a 10-book collection by Nick Louth, bringing together the first ten investigations featuring DCI Craig Gillard. Across the set, Gillard is drawn into cases that range from sudden disappearances to killings that appear calculated and professional, with enquiries stretching from Surrey and London to Exmoor and the Lincolnshire coast.

The stories open with criminologist Martin Knight’s life unravelling when his wife, Liz, vanishes, pulling Gillard into a personal investigation. From there, the series moves through shootings, unidentified victims, disturbing markings and high-profile incidents involving powerful figures, including a German Minister of Justice and a British Home Secretary. Each title centres on a new mystery, with scarce clues, unreliable witnesses and escalating pressure on the investigation.

Synopses

The Body in the Marsh

Criminologist Martin Knight’s wife, Liz, disappears without explanation, forcing him to run. Liz is also the ex-girlfriend of DCI Craig Gillard, drawing him into the investigation.

The Body on the Shore

Architect Peter Young is shot dead at his desk, and Gillard arrives to what looks like a brutal, professional hit. Two weeks later, another body is found on the Lincolnshire coast, unidentified and marked by a strange brand burned into the neck.

The Body in the Mist

A hit-and-run victim is discovered on a quiet Exmoor lane with no identification and no recognisable face. Fresh from his last case, Gillard is unexpectedly called to Devon on family business.

The Body in the Snow

On a snowy winter morning, a young detective out jogging witnesses a brutal murder. The victim is Tanvi Roy, described as one of Britain’s richest women and the matriarch of a food empire, and Gillard is on duty.

The Body Under the Bridge

What first appears to be a routine disappearance linked to a musician’s stage fright escalates quickly. Gillard becomes involved when the missing woman’s father is the German Minister of Justice and the British Home Secretary is also engaged with the case.

The Body on the Island

After a splash in the Thames on midsummer’s night, a body is found on an island, asphyxiated and marked with strange signs. With an elusive identity, limited clues and witnesses who conceal information, Gillard faces a baffling investigation.

The Bodies at Westgrave Hall

Russian oligarch Alexander Volkov hosts a party for 1,000 guests at Westgrave Hall in Surrey. During a private library tour, a gunman kills Volkov, wounds his ex-wife and kills her new partner.

The Body on the Moor

Following a major drug-gang crackdown by the National Crime Agency, junior barrister Julia McGann defends violent enforcer Terrence Bonner. As the high-profile case unfolds, intruders break into her home and a young girl arrives at her door with a horrifying account.

The Body Beneath the Willows

Workmen uncover a decaying corpse on the banks of Surrey’s River Wey at an Anglo-Saxon burial site, but modern dental fillings show it is not an ancient body. Gillard is called in, and one possible match is Ozzy Blanchard, a contractor who vanished six months earlier after his company car was found crashed nearby.

The Body in the Stairwell

Wealthy property lawyer and money launderer Jonathan Hale returns to Surrey after a nightmare in a US jail, with police keeping him under secret surveillance. His fear centres on The Reptile, a gangster imprisoned for life in Arizona after Hale’s plea bargain, and Hale questions what could happen if The Reptile escapes.
