Edward Marston Ocean Liner Mysteries Collection brings together three novels featuring private detectives George Dillman and Genevieve Masefield, set against the backdrop of Cunard Line voyages in the early 1900s. The collection moves between Liverpool and New York, with journeys that place the pair among passengers and crew on well-known vessels.

Across the set, Dillman works in an investigative capacity connected to the Cunard Line, while both detectives find themselves drawn into cases that unfold at sea and in port. The stories span 1907 to 1908 and include a maiden voyage marked by relentless weather, a freighter and passenger ship bound for the Far East, and an ocean liner departure shadowed by the transfer of prisoners accused of murder.

Synopses

Murder on the Mauretania

In November 1907, George Dillman and Genevieve Masefield sail from Liverpool on the maiden voyage of the Mauretania. Although he poses as a passenger, Dillman is an undercover detective hired by the Cunard Line. Severe weather batters the ship and keeps passengers away from the decks, turning the crossing into a nightmare voyage.

Murder on the Minnesota

In New York in 1908, private detectives George Dillman and Genevieve Masefield intend to take a break from their work with the Cunard Line’s fleet. An offer of employment takes them aboard the Minnesota, a freighter and passenger vessel bound for the Far East.

Murder on the Caronia

Also in New York in 1908, Dillman and Masefield wait to embark on the Caronia, described as the Cunard Line’s famous ocean liner. They witness a man and woman boarding in shackles and learn the prisoners are being taken back to England by Scotland Yard to face trial for murder.
