This three-book collection brings together Bryony Gordon’s candid writing across memoir and personal reportage. Featuring Mad Girl, The Wrong Knickers and Eat, Drink, Run, the set spans her experiences of mental health, modern single life in London and the challenge of marathon training.

In Mad Girl, Gordon writes about living with OCD, describing the intrusive thoughts and compulsions that have shaped her life since her teens, alongside the impact on her health. The Wrong Knickers turns to the realities behind a glamorised image of being young and perpetually single, sharing episodes that are presented as both uncomfortable and funny. Eat, Drink, Run follows her preparation for the 2017 London Marathon, including the physical demands of training and her work to encourage a royal to speak about mental health.

Synopses

Mad Girl

Bryony Gordon describes living with OCD, which she characterises as a persistent voice warning that disaster is imminent. She writes about compulsions such as repeating phrases and fears that she may have harmed someone without remembering. The account also covers the illness’s wider effects, including alopecia, bulimia and drug dependency, and her decision to stop staying silent.

The Wrong Knickers

Gordon challenges a glamorised idea of life as a young, perpetually single woman in London. She shares personal stories that range from awkward encounters at an STI clinic to debt linked to her day-to-day habits. The synopsis also includes a dating experience in which a “dream man” turns out to be a one-night stand.

Eat, Drink, Run

In April 2017, Gordon ran the London Marathon. This book follows her as she trains for the 26.2-mile distance and works towards completing it step by step. Alongside the physical strain of preparation, she also recounts trying to get a royal to speak openly about mental health.
