San Marzano 62 Anniversario Primitivo di Manduria Riserva 2020

From Cantine San Marzano, the 62 Anniversario Primitivo di Manduria Riserva 2020 reflects a cooperative founded in 1962 by 19 vine growers in San Marzano, whose families had farmed the land for generations. Now supported by over 1,200 vine growers, the winery combines modern, technologically advanced vinification techniques with ancient Apulian wine traditions, creating wines with distinctive varietal and regional character that reflect the local terroir. In 2022, San Marzano received the ‘Cooperative Winery of the Year Award’ from Gambero Rosso.

Produced using only the best fruit from the best plots, the grapes were hand-harvested at an advanced state of ripening. Fermentation was temperature-controlled at 24 to 26°C for approximately 15 days, followed by malolactic conversion in stainless steel vats. The wine was then racked into French and American oak barrels to mature for 18 months.

On the palate, expect deep, complex flavours of prunes, black cherry jam, spice and tobacco, carried by a full-bodied structure and velvety texture. The finish is long and layered, with notes of cocoa, coffee and vanilla bean.
